References to Palmistry appear in texts of the Indian Vedas written in India about 4000 years ago.
A science of palm reading for use in medicine and healing emerged in China aprox at the same time. The Chinese were also the first to make use of fingerprints for identification. From India, palmistry migrates east and west. Practiced in the Middle East before Christ, references found in the Old Testament and the Koran. The crusaders returning form the Middle East brought Islamic art and Palmistry to Europe.
Another important source for knowledge of Palmistry was the nomadic gypsies, who migrated from India in the 13th and 14th centuries.
Paracelsus (1493-4 to 1541), a Swiss physician, alchemist and astrologer of the German Renaissance, wrote the first writings in Palmistry after learning from gypsies.
